Feminine hygiene products are often donated less frequently than other in-kind items (e.g. food) and cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. For women and girls in poverty, feminine hygiene products can be a major expense.

As members of the Junior League of Asheville post this week about the insights they have gained from participating in a SNAP Challenge, Working Poor Simulation, Pisgah Legal Services’ Poverty Forum, a meal at Haywood Street Congregation, or other activities, you may be wondering what you can do to help individuals in poverty in Western North Carolina. One way that you can help is to help the League collect feminine hygiene products for Dignity Period this week. Dignity PERIOD is a relatively new nonprofit that works to distribute feminine hygiene products to women and girls in Henderson and Buncombe Counties via 15 area agencies and 30 schools. Donations may be dropped off at our Headquarters (409 Executive Park, Asheville, NC 28801) between 12pm and 1pm on Wednesday and Friday and at Mellow Mushroom between 6pm and 8pm on Friday. #PovertyAwarenessandEducationWeek
