Great news! Project Dignity is expanding into Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey County! We want to thank Donna Miller who contacted us identifying the need and is helping make it happen. 👏👏👏

Project Dignity was formed in April of 2017 and in that year we distributed almost 5,600 pieces of product in Buncombe and Henderson Counties. Since then, we have expanded into Polk, Rutherford, and Transylvania Counties. The grant provides coverage for exactly one year’s rent for the organization’s headquarters and distribution facility in Duncan Hill Center. From this facility Project Dignity of WNC coordinates the efforts of dozens of community volunteers who collect, organize, package, and deliver thousands of feminine hygiene products monthly. This distribution encourages good health, restores dignity, and increases productivity for women and girls throughout WNC who face the often unrecognized and unspoken challenge of simple access to these essential hygiene products.

Looking for a fun way to get involved with Project Dignity of WNC? This Sunday, Asheville Artist (and our webmaster) Natalie Ray and her large scale watercolor series On the Road will be featured for one night only at Little Jumbo in Asheville’s historic Montford neighborhood, and 10% of the proceeds will go to Project Dignity! The exhibition party will take place on Sunday, August 18th from 5-7pm at Little Jumbo at 241 Broadway St. near downtown Asheville.

This exhibition features a series of large-scale watercolor and gold original paintings featuring both locally and internationally known jazz musicians. Performers such as The Core, Justin Ray, Jacob Rodriguez, Zack Page, Bill Bares, and many other Asheville musicians are the subjects in this series. Also featured in this series are frozen moments from international stages as Natalie travels around the world with her musician husband on the current Michael Bublé world tour.

Barb was recently honored to be the guest speaker for the Volunteer Luncheon at Pardee UNC Health Care. The theme was "Every Moment Makes a Difference". She spoke about her relationship with the Pardee blood bank and the Pardee Cancer Center nurses and about how she decided to start our non-profit, Project Dignity of WNC.

From her speech:
After being in the schools for a full year, we knew we had succeeded in helping the girls when we received a letter from Matthew Gruebmeyer, Director, Student Services, Henderson County Public Schools.
Matt stated:
"Project Dignity helps our students stay in school, having product at school means students don’t have to run to the store, call mom or dad who are likely working or even miss school because students stay home when they want to avoid the embarrassment of being at school without. Finally, being a student is hard enough these days. Project Dignity helps our students to be confident and secure at a time when they might not otherwise feel that way.”

Ladies and gentlemen, be aware of what’s going on around you, don’t pass up the opportunity to have every moment make a difference. Whether it’s simply a smile at a patient that’s just been delivered some bad news about their health, or helping someone who is wandering lost in the hospital or garage. You can make that interface make a difference.

Project Dignity of WNC has completed all necessary steps to receive matched donations.

FACEBOOK WILL START MATCHING DONATIONS AT 5 A.M. PST ON GIVING TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27th and will continue matching donations to nonprofits until the $7M match runs out.

Well, we've had a fantastic weekend thanks to two ladies who had a creative take on hosting parties! Pat Whiteside and Brenda Williams both hosted separate parties and the admission was a product to donate to Project Dignity WNC! What a fun way to help out a great cause. Perhaps it will become a trend! We are grateful.

Lisa McDonald, Sanctuary co-owner with Joe Dinan, inspired us early on and attended our first community release party! Lisa has a “caring wall” on the outside of the brewery with coats, clothing or gift bags filled with the essentials that individuals may need to make their life easier.
